What happens if my ship arrives late?
Our itineraries are designed with flexibility in mind, so a delayed arrival does not necessarily mean missing your experience. If your ship reaches port later than expected, our operations team will review the updated schedule and adapt the programme to make the best possible use of the time available.
This same approach applies to our multi-day overland journeys, including programmes to Machu Picchu and the Galápagos. Where necessary, we can reorganise transfers, sightseeing, accommodation and other arrangements, and coordinate changes to flights, trains or scheduled services whenever availability and supplier conditions allow.
Our priority is to find the most practical solution, keep your journey running smoothly and ensure every adjustment remains carefully coordinated with your cruise itinerary.
Will you return us to the ship on time?
Yes. Every shore excursion and overland programme we operate is carefully planned around the specific arrival, departure and all-aboard times of your cruise ship. Our itineraries are never based on generic timings; they are adapted to the schedule of each vessel so that your day ashore can be enjoyed comfortably and without unnecessary stress.
Our operations team closely coordinates transport, guides, port access, travel times and every stage of the itinerary to keep the programme running smoothly. We also build appropriate time margins into the return journey rather than planning right up to the ship’s departure.
Our cruise programmes include a guaranteed return-to-ship commitment, with our operations team working closely throughout the day to keep everything running smoothly and ensure you are back at the vessel safely and on time. You enjoy the destination; we take care of the timing and logistics.
Where will we meet you at the port?
Your pick-up is fully coordinated as part of our shore excursion service. JD Adventure Travel is licensed and authorised to operate within the relevant port areas, allowing our team to arrange access and passenger collection in advance of your ship’s arrival.
In some ports, maritime or port authorities may occasionally restrict direct access for operational or security reasons. When this happens, we coordinate with the ship’s official port operator and authorised shuttle service so that your meeting arrangements remain smooth, clear and convenient.
You will always receive your confirmed meeting point in advance, often several weeks before arrival, together with clear instructions from our operations team. Whether the collection takes place inside the authorised port area or at the official shuttle meeting point, your pick-up will be carefully organised so your excursion can begin confidently and without unnecessary stress.
Are your shore excursions private or shared?
We offer both private and small-group shore excursions, and many of our experiences can be arranged according to your preferred style of travel. If you would like greater privacy, flexibility or a more personalised pace, we can organise a private service exclusively for your party.
Our small-group tours are operated exclusively for JD Adventure Travel guests. Group sizes may vary depending on the number of confirmed passengers for each departure, but we do not combine our guests with tours operated by other travel agencies. We use our own dedicated transport and vehicles reserved exclusively for our passengers, allowing our operations team to maintain greater control over service quality, timing and the overall experience.
Tours are accompanied by official professional guides, with English and Spanish available as standard. If you require a guide in another language, simply contact us in advance and our team will be pleased to arrange and quote the appropriate service, subject to availability.
What happens if my cruise ship cannot dock?
If your cruise ship is unable to call at the scheduled port due to adverse weather, natural disasters, war, civil unrest, port closures or other circumstances beyond your control, we will do everything possible to protect your booking and minimise any financial impact.
For shore excursions and services operated directly by JD Adventure Travel, a refund will be provided when the tour cannot operate because the ship does not reach the port.
For multi-day overland programmes, some arrangements may involve independent third-party suppliers such as hotels, airlines, train companies or other transport providers. Once these services have been confirmed or issued, their own cancellation and refund conditions may apply. Some costs may therefore be non-refundable or subject to change fees. In these situations, our operations team will work on your behalf to request refunds, reschedule services or recover as much of the booking value as possible, depending on each supplier’s conditions.
For this reason, we strongly recommend comprehensive travel insurance that includes cruise disruption, trip cancellation, missed port calls and other unexpected events. This provides additional protection, particularly for programmes involving flights, trains, hotels or other prepaid services.
Can you arrange an excursion specifically for my cruise ship?
Absolutely. We can design private shore excursions, multi-day overland journeys and fully personalised travel programmes around your cruise itinerary, whether you are travelling before, during or after your voyage.
For example, if you are planning to join your ship in a port such as San Antonio in Chile, Buenos Aires in Argentina or Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, we can organise an overland journey before embarkation and coordinate the itinerary so that you arrive at the port comfortably and with appropriate time before sailing.
We can also arrange the journey in the opposite direction. If you disembark or leave your ship at one port and would like to travel overland through South America before rejoining the same cruise or boarding another vessel at a different port, our team can coordinate the complete programme around those dates and locations.
From private transfers, hotels and sightseeing to domestic flights, trains, guides and multi-destination itineraries, we can tailor the journey to your interests, preferred pace and available time. What happens if a flight delay means we cannot rejoin the ship as planned?
For our multi-day cruise overland programmes, including journeys to Machu Picchu and the Galápagos, every return connection is carefully planned around your ship’s itinerary, with contingency options considered in advance.
If an unexpected flight delay, cancellation or other operational disruption means that you cannot rejoin the ship at the originally planned port, JD Adventure Travel will take control of the situation. Our operations team will activate the most appropriate contingency plan, coordinate the necessary transport and arrangements, and work to reconnect you with your ship at the next feasible port of call.
You will not be left to manage the situation on your own. Our team will remain in direct coordination with you, the relevant suppliers and, where required, the ship’s local representatives until a practical solution has been arranged.
We maintain appropriate operational insurance and work with carefully selected suppliers to help safeguard our passengers and services. Every multi-day cruise programme is also planned with a Plan B in mind, so that if an unexpected disruption occurs, our team is ready to respond quickly and keep your journey moving forward.
