8:30 am – Meet Us Directly at San Martin Port

Your shore excursion begins directly at San Martin Port, making the start of your day simple and convenient. Our team will be waiting for you inside the authorised port area, just a short distance from your ship’s exit, so there is no need to travel independently into Paracas before joining the tour.

After meeting our representative, you will be assisted directly to your designated vehicle, where the group will be organised and prepared for departure.

9:00 am – Departure from San Martin Port to Paracas

Depart San Martin Port aboard our comfortable tour vehicle and travel towards the Paracas Tourist Marina, approximately 20–25 minutes away.

During the journey, our team will provide the necessary information for the day and coordinate the timing of each activity around your cruise schedule.

Arrival at Paracas Marina – Priority Boarding

Upon arrival at the marina, there will be a short opportunity to use the toilet facilities while our team completes the final boarding arrangements.

As your boat and tickets are organised in advance, our cruise guests benefit from a coordinated priority boarding process, avoiding unnecessary time waiting in the general ticket queues.

You will then board the boat and begin your journey towards the Ballestas Islands.

Ballestas Islands Boat Tour – Approximately 1 Hour 50 Minutes

Cruise across Paracas Bay and begin with a view of the mysterious Paracas Candelabra, an enormous geoglyph carved into the desert hillside and visible only from the sea.

The journey then continues towards the Ballestas Islands, one of Peru’s most important marine wildlife areas. As you navigate around the natural rock formations, look out for colonies of South American sea lions, Humboldt penguins and numerous species of seabirds, including cormorants, pelicans and boobies.

Wildlife is observed in its natural environment, so the species and numbers seen may vary according to the season and natural conditions.

After exploring the islands, return by boat to the Paracas marina.

Free Time in Paracas – Approximately 35 Minutes

Following the boat excursion, enjoy approximately 35 minutes of free time in Paracas.

You may take a short walk along the waterfront, browse local shops, purchase refreshments or simply enjoy the atmosphere of this small coastal town before continuing with the second part of your shore excursion.

At the agreed time, regroup with your guide and board the vehicle.

Paracas National Reserve

Continue into the spectacular Paracas National Reserve, where golden desert landscapes meet the deep blue waters of the Pacific Ocean.

Complimentary bottled water will be available aboard the vehicle as you travel through the reserve.

During the excursion, you will visit some of its most distinctive natural viewpoints and coastal landscapes, including:

  • The Cathedral – one of the reserve’s best-known coastal geological formations and viewpoints.
  • Supay Viewpoint – a dramatic lookout over the cliffs and Pacific coastline.
  • Isthmus Viewpoint – offering panoramic views across both sides of the Paracas Peninsula.
  • Playa Roja – the famous Red Beach, recognised for the striking contrast between its reddish shoreline, desert cliffs and blue ocean.

Your guide will provide information about the reserve’s geography, wildlife and protected ecosystem while allowing time for photographs at the principal stops.

Return to San Martin Port – Return to Ship Guaranteed

After completing the Paracas National Reserve tour, board the vehicle for the direct journey back to San Martin Port.

The entire excursion is carefully coordinated around the ship’s schedule, and we plan the return with an appropriate safety margin before all aboard time.

You will be returned directly to the port to rejoin your cruise ship, completing a carefully organised port-to-port shore excursion combining the Ballestas Islands, marine wildlife and the remarkable landscapes of the Paracas National Reserve.

Port Meeting & Drop-Off

All our shore excursions from San Martin Port include direct port pick-up and return, so you do not need to arrange independent transport into Paracas. Our team will meet you at the designated meeting point within the authorised port area, conveniently located close to your ship’s exit.

Pick-up Time

The departure time shown on the itinerary is a reference time. For cruise passengers, the actual meeting and departure time is adjusted according to your ship’s scheduled arrival at San Martin Port.

For example:

  • If your ship arrives at 6:00 am, the meeting time will normally be around 7:40 am
  • If your ship arrives at 7:00 am, the meeting time will normally be around 8:30 am
  • If your ship arrives at 9:00 am, the meeting time will normally be around 10:00 am

Your final meeting time will be confirmed according to your vessel’s official port schedule, allowing sufficient time for disembarkation before beginning the excursion.

Return to San Martin Port

The same flexibility applies to the return journey. We continuously plan the excursion around your ship’s all-aboard and departure time.

If your vessel changes its schedule or is required to depart earlier than originally planned, we will adjust the timing and, when necessary, the order or duration of certain stops so that you can still enjoy the main highlights of the excursion while maintaining a safe return margin.

Return to Ship Guaranteed

Your excursion is organised specifically for cruise passengers, and returning you to San Martin Port with sufficient time before your ship’s departure is our priority.

With our Return to Ship Guaranteed commitment, the entire programme — from port meeting to final drop-off — is carefully coordinated around your cruise schedule.

Important Information

  • Sea & Weather Conditions: The Ballestas Islands boat excursion is subject to suitable sea and weather conditions, as well as authorisation from the local maritime authorities. Strong winds, high swell or other unsafe conditions may result in a delayed departure, modified route or suspension of the maritime portion of the tour.
  • Alternative Maritime Route: If navigation to the Ballestas Islands is temporarily restricted but conditions still allow safe boating within Paracas Bay, an alternative excursion towards the Paracas Candelabra and Islas Blancas may be offered. Any operational change will always prioritise passenger safety.
  • Wildlife Sightings: The Ballestas Islands are a protected natural environment, and all wildlife is observed in its natural habitat. Sea lions, Humboldt penguins and numerous seabirds are commonly seen; however, the presence, number and proximity of individual species cannot be guaranteed and may vary according to season, migration and natural conditions.
  • Communication Before the Tour: Reliable communication is extremely important for cruise shore excursions. When booking, please provide a valid mobile number with WhatsApp enabled and ensure that the number remains active during your journey. We may use WhatsApp to confirm your meeting time, provide last-minute port instructions or communicate any operational changes related to your ship’s schedule.
  • Motion Sickness: The boat journey to the Ballestas Islands takes place on open water and sea movement can occasionally be noticeable. Guests who are sensitive to motion sickness are advised to take their usual preventive medication before boarding, following the instructions provided by their doctor or pharmacist.
  • Clothing & Sun Protection: Paracas can be sunny, windy and noticeably cooler on the water than on land. We recommend bringing a light jacket or windbreaker, sun hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Comfortable walking shoes are also recommended for the National Reserve portion of the tour.
  • Boat Boarding: Boarding the Ballestas Islands vessel requires stepping from the marina onto the boat. Guests with reduced mobility should inform us in advance so we can assess the most appropriate assistance and confirm whether the maritime portion is suitable.
  • Port & Ship Schedule Changes: Cruise schedules can occasionally change at short notice. If your vessel arrives late, departs earlier or modifies its port call, we will adjust the excursion timing whenever operationally possible while protecting the required return-to-ship margin.
  • What to Bring: We recommend carrying your cruise card, a form of identification, personal medication, sun protection and a small amount of local currency or a bank card for optional purchases during your free time in Paracas.
  • Tour Timing: The itinerary and stop durations may be adjusted slightly due to port procedures, traffic, weather, maritime conditions or operational requirements. Any changes are made to preserve the main highlights of the tour while ensuring a safe and timely return to San Martin Port.
  • Free Cancellation: Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the confirmed tour start time are eligible for a full refund.
  • Cancellations Within 24 Hours: Cancellations made less than 24 hours before departure are non-refundable, as transport, guides, boat spaces, entrance tickets and operational services will already have been arranged.
  • No-Show: Guests who do not arrive at the confirmed meeting point at the agreed time, without prior communication, will be considered a no-show and will not be eligible for a refund.
  • Ship Unable to Call at San Martin Port: If your cruise ship is unable to dock or make its scheduled call at San Martin Port due to adverse weather, sea conditions, port closure, political circumstances, natural disasters or other circumstances beyond your control, you will receive a full refund of your tour payment.
  • Ship Schedule Changes: If your vessel arrives later than expected or changes its departure time, please remain in contact with us. Whenever operationally possible, we will adjust the tour schedule so that you can still enjoy the main experiences while maintaining sufficient time for your return to the ship.
  • Communication Is Essential: Please provide a valid WhatsApp number when booking and keep your phone available on the day of the excursion. This allows our operations team to communicate any last-minute changes to meeting times, port procedures or the tour schedule.
  • Operational Adjustments: JD Adventure Travel reserves the right to modify the departure time, order of visits, duration of individual stops or routing when required by port operations, maritime conditions, traffic, weather or changes to the ship’s schedule. These adjustments are made to protect the overall experience and ensure a timely return to port.
  • Weather or Maritime Restrictions: If the Ballestas Islands boat excursion cannot operate safely, an alternative maritime route may be offered where conditions permit. If no maritime service can operate, the corresponding affected service will be refunded.
  • Cruise Booking Protection: This shore excursion is specifically organised for cruise passengers. Your booking is protected by our cruise-specific cancellation conditions and our Return to Ship Guaranteed commitment, with the programme carefully coordinated around your vessel’s official schedule.
